OnePlus 7T Price, Camera Quality, Screen, Battery & Performance – Reviewed

In the initial years of establishment, OnePlus released one smartphone per year, and now it has evolved to release multiple mobile phones every year, just like other smartphone brands even though it results into annoyed customers who spent a lot to buy a flagship phone only to find their brand new device outdated in no time. For those who did not purchase any OnePlus smartphone this year are some lucky ones, as the OnePlus 7T could be an all-in-one smartphone, better than all the previous launches.

Key Specifications of OnePlus 7T

The OnePlus 7T includes two notable upgrades when compared to the OnePlus 7: Improved display and a better camera that retains the convenient shape of the OnePlus 7, with a new back design which many of us might not find tempting. Just like the previous versions, the OnePlus 7T supports dash charging but this time it’s even faster. With the latest Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, performance has been significantly improved.

OnePlus 7T Display

  • Display Type – 90 Hz Fluid AMOLED
  • Protection – Corning Gorilla Glass
  • Aspect Ratio – 20:9
  • Bezel-less Display with Waterdrop notch
  • Pixel Density – 402 ppi
  • Screen Protection – Corning Gorilla Glass
  • Screen to Body Ratio – 86.53 %
  • Screen Size – 6.55” (16.64 cm)
  • Screen Resolution – 1080×2400 pixels
  • Touch Screen – Yes 3D Touchscreen with Multi-touch

Compared to OnePlus 7, the OnePlus7T’s display has a significant upgrade. In theory, the OnePlus 7T’s display is comparable to the 7 Pro, but the size, resolution and panel quality vary slightly.

The OnePlus7T features a 6.55-inch Gorilla Glass Full HD+ AMOLED display with a narrower frame and supports HDR 10+ and 90Hz refresh rates. The OnePlus 7 features a smaller 6.41-inch FHD+ display, while the OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a larger and slightly better 6.67-inch QHD+ display.

A higher refresh rate means that the image on the screen is refreshed faster, which makes the transition on the screen smoother. Some users, unless they are an old user of 90Hz screen, may not be able to distinguish between 60Hz and 90Hz displays. 90Hz screen will be an advantage to mobile gamers while playing graphic-intensive games like PUBG mobile, COD mobile, etc.

The advantages of a 90Hz display will be obvious when you navigate and while gaming, while HDR 10+ compatibility enhances the video quality and delivers color-accurate results although it’s not as colorful or as immersive as the 7 Pro’s QHD+ display as it doesn’t have a curved screen. However, flat screens also have several advantages – they are less reflective and you are less likely to accidentally press the screen.

OnePlus 7T is said to use a new type of E3 material that reduces harmful blue light by 42% without affecting color. There is a video enhancement in the display settings that enhances color and contrast when playing video.

The display calibration on the OnePlus 7T is very similar to the display calibration on the OnePlus 7 Pro, but if you look at the two screens side by side, the colors on the 7 Pro will look cooler – for example, the sky looks bluer which can be a deal-breaker.

The OnePlus7T’s screen is perfect entertainment consumption, movies, TV shows, and games. Also, the OnePlus 7T has a screen brightness of 1000 nits, which is very beautiful and bright, and is visible even under the sun.

OnePlus 7T unlocks faster than the OnePlus 7 – It claims that the unlock time has been reduced from 0.40 seconds to 0.21 seconds.

  • Audio Jack – USB Type-C
  • Audio Features – Dolby Atmos
  • Loudspeaker – Yes

  • Chipset – 2.96GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus
  • Graphics – Adreno 640
  • Processor – Octa-core (2.96 GHz, Single core, Kryo 485 + 2.42 GHz, Tri core, Kryo 485 + 1.8 GHz, Quad-core, Kryo 485) processor
  • Architecture – 64 bit
  • RAM – 8 GB

Both the 128GB and 256GB versions of the OnePlus 7T are equipped with 8GB of RAM. We tested the 8GB/256GB version. On a 128GB phone, we don’t think there will be significant performance differences.

The OnePlus7T uses the latest 2.96GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset with AI Engine, Octa-Core, 7nm processor. It is a small upgrade based on the Snapdragon 855 on the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro.

Like any other OnePlus 7 Series phones which are packed with performance, 7T can handle all your problems with ease, and we didn’t experience any performance issues and lags during tests. The Adreno 640 integrated into the OnePlus 7T’s Opteron 855 Plus can easily handle any graphics-intensive game. There are not many mobile games requiring a 90Hz screen, so we can say that the most popular game right now i.e. PUBG can run smoothly on this smartphone. Regular users will also find the phone functional.

OnePlus7T is pre-installed with the Android 10 operating system, which features the new OxygenOS interface based on Google’s latest operating system. It is the latest OS, yet simple and clean user interface with easy navigation. It has always been a plus that emphasizes scrolling, animation, and transformation within the optimized interface for a smoother experience.

OnePlus 7T Design

  • Width – 74.4 mm
  • Weight – 190 grams
  • Waterproof – Yes splash-proof
  • Thickness – 8.1 mm
  • Height – 160.9 mm
  • Available Colours – Frosted Silver, Glacier Blue

We tested the OnePlus 7T in Glacial Blue color. This color looks like the nebulized nebula blue on the 7 Pro. If we have to choose one of the two blues, we will like the nebula blue slightly. But the color should not let you make a purchase decision as OnePlus offers many back covers options.

OnePlus 7T is available in 2 colors i.e. Frosted Silver and Glacier Blue with a unique matte frosted glass back shell like the OnePlus 7T Pro.

Unlike the previous “T” series upgrades, the OnePlus 7T can easily distinguish – mainly because of the triple round camera, which adds to the recognition of an old-fashioned camera which is seen on Motorola and Nokia devices. The OnePlus7T and OnePlus 7 have a similar design language with a slightly curved back shell and the same drop-shaped recess for secondary ‘selfie’ camera on the top of the screen.

The OnePlus 7T measures 160.94 x 74.44 x 8.13 mm and weighs 191 grams. It is slimmer and lighter than the OnePlus 7 Pro and slightly taller and bulkier than the OnePlus 7.

The compact and lightweight form factor makes the OnePlus 7T perfect for one-handed operations and pocket-friendly (In both ways). The glass back shell is still relatively fragile; we recommend that you buy OnePlus Cover as its smooth surface makes it quite slippery

The ports and buttons on the OnePlus 7T like “Physical Alarm” slider and the “Power/Lock” button are located on the right side of the unit. The power button naturally falls under the thumb, and you can move the thumb up one inch to access the alarm slider without looking at the phone.

When you hold the phone, the volume button on the left side of the fuselage is just below the index finger, while the USB Type-C port, SIM card tray and speakers are located at the bottom of the camera.

The Oneplus7T does not inherit the two design features of the 7 Pro, which are curved screens and pop-up self-timer cameras. Instead, the OnePlus 7T is equipped with a flat-screen like the OnePlus 7 and a Waterdrop notch, which is said to be 30% smaller than the OnePlus 7.

Storage Capacity

  • Internal Memory – 128/256 GB
  • Expandable Memory – No

OnePlus 7T Triple Camera

  • Rear Camera – 48MP (f/1.6) + 16MP (Ultra-Wide) + 12MP (Telephoto Lens)
  • Front Camera – 16 MP
  • Image Resolution – 8000 x 6000 Pixels
  • Sensor – Exmor RS
  • Auto-focus – Yes Phase Detection auto-focus, Continuous auto-focus
  • Shooting Modes – High Dynamic Range Mode (HDR), Continuous Shooting Mode
  • Optical Image Stabilisation – Yes

The OnePlus7T’s rear camera array includes a 48MP wide-angle camera (with f/1.6 aperture), a 16MP ultra-wide camera and a 12MP telephoto lens. When compared to OnePlus 7 Pro, 7T includes upgrades such as a macro mode for close-ups and an ultra-wide night mode that takes the existing nighttime feature to a wider camera and a 12MP telephoto lens. Also, the OnePlus 7T is equipped with improved image stabilization. In our limited testing time, this camera gives the impression of significant improvement, it provides some impressive software wizards to optimize your image.

Unlike the pop-up self-portrait camera that comes with the OnePlus 7 Pro, the OnePlus 7T’s self-portrait is placed in the notch at the top of the screen. According to us, the normal camera is better than a pop-up camera as it is less prone to any damage or malfunction in the long run.

Battery Life

  • User-Replaceable – No
  • Type – Li-ion
  • Fast Charging – Yes Warp, 70% in 30 minutes
  • Battery Capacity – 3800mAh

The OnePlus7T is equipped with an improved Warp charging technology which is called Warp Charge 30T. One plus said it is 18% faster than previous versions of the charging technology and can charges from 1% to 100% in an hour. We are impressed with the battery life of the OnePlus 7 with a 3800 mAh battery that is slightly larger than the OnePlus 7. Even though the 7T display consumes more power, the impact on battery life is minimal.

When fully charged, the OnePlus 7 can easily stand 9 am to 5 pm with moderate use, and the remaining battery power is still over 40% when you punch out. We spent the whole day testing the battery under extreme conditions, using a lot of cameras and fierce games. It lasted for more than six hours.

In our charging test, it takes 56 minutes for the OnePlus 7T to charge from 7% to 100%. In-addition, one plus has improved its technology to ensure that the phone is charging at a constant speed, and to avoid the phone warming up, even if you plug the phone into the socket to charge while playing intensive games, its body temperature will not be too high.

Final Verdict

The OnePlus7T is a huge upgrade compared to the OnePlus 7 and is somewhat similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro, but with a smaller body and no curved screen. For those who want a compact OnePlus 7 Pro, don’t mind the design of a triple camera, and as long as your screen pixel requirements are not too high, the OnePlus 7T display is still very suitable for your requirements.
